Speak their name – Suicide loss memorial quilt

1st November 2022

Speak their Name are planning to create a suicide loss memorial quilt in the North East of England.

The project is led by Tracey Beadle of Quinn’s Retreat and Suzanne Howes. Both have lost children to suicide and are determined to make a difference and bring hope in their children’s names.

Their vision is that this powerful artwork will take centre stage in our region. The quilt will tour public places, provoke thought, be a catalyst for conversations and raise awareness about suicide. Alongside this, the quilt will bring hope and healing to those who have lost loved ones.

The quilt will be made of individual fabric squares, each crafted by those bereaved to suicide, representing and honouring their loved ones who have died.

The creation of the quilt will be embedded in our local community. Workshops will be facilitated by volunteers across Darlington, Durham, Newcastle and Sunderland. The creative space will bring connection, understanding and mutual support, in a safe and accepting space.

They plan to start workshops in early 2023 and run them throughout the year followed by a launch later in 2023.

If you would like to be part of the planning group or can help in any way with fabrics or donations etc., please contact them now – [email protected]
