Support for people with a learning disability or autism during COVID-19

14th May 2020

Since 1983 Skills for People has been working as a registered charity to make sure that disabled people and their families can be in control of their own lives and be closely connected to the communities of their choice.

They are currently identified as one of the organisations being funded to reach out to people who have a learning disability or autism (or both) during this difficult time. They are doing this by offering a free service which aims to keep people connected during the COVID-19 crisis and to enable them to stay safe and stay well. Their Keeping People Connected service covers Newcastle, North Tyneside and Redcar and Cleveland. It aims to:

  • Help people understand their current circumstances
  • Help people to stay connected
  • Help people to problem solve
  • Support people to get help from other services if needed
  • Ensure people know what to do and who to contact in an emergency
